Second Hand Dress.

One womans old dress, is another womans fabulous new work dress!

I bought this dress a couple of weeks ago from Value Village. I bought it the same day I purchased the long red cocktail dress (see previous post) for our play.

Its a brown and black checked shift dress originally from Club Monaco and its as cute as a button. Im not sure why someone would give it away, its in great condition and its not so trendy that its out of style. Maybe someone got really fat and couldn't wear it. Or maybe they lost a lot of weight and now Im wearing their old fat dress. Regardless, I really love this dress

THOR shirt

Ok. So this is still not a dress. But it may be the most awesome-est tee I have ever purchased.

Its a muthaf**kin Thor shirt people! And it kicks ass. And I didn't buy it cuz the movie is coming out next year (although I hope its gonna be good) I bought it cuz its totally Berzerk!!
You see this year, E-Ville Roller Derby will announce its newest house team.... The Berzerkhers!!! We're a little bit viking, a little bit metal and totally Berzerk! We were inspired by the real Berzerkers and will be going into our own killing trances this season to kick some serious ass. And on that note, the new season starts Saturday September 25
So until we get new team jerseys, this will be my favorite shirt. Expect to see it at most derby afterparties this season.

Holy Crap its August 30!

Holy crap its August 30! What the hell happened to the summer?? I swear to god we just celebrated Canada Day yesterday, not two months ago... I really hate how fast the months of July and August disappear... no effin way does January and February go by this quickly....

Quick recap:
We began (and ended) our 7 show run at the Fringe Festival* and had an absolute blast. We sold out almost every night and the feedback we heard was so positive that there's no way all those people could be lying, so I guess we put on a pretty decent show. Now to start thinking about next year...but how do you top a show that has this warning to its audience. (gunshots, nudity, salty language and cheese)

Big giant huge thanks to all our friends/families and total strangers that came to the show, ate some popcorn and had fun. Thank you for all your support!

The other week, I attended a Fight Fan Expo at the Shaw Conference centre as E-Ville Roller Derby had a booth set up to provide info about our sport and our league. It was a fun day spent chatting up strangers while wearing fishnets and booty shorts. God, I love roller derby. Normally, Im not a fan of the mixed martial arts, or fighting in general, but these two handsome boys might just make me change my mind. However the amount of Ed Hardy, wearing douchbags packed into the Conference Centre was too much for me to handle.

But there has been a lot in the past two weeks. A wedding, a trip to Jasper, out-of-town guests and lots of socializing. I will do my best to include everything, oh and there will be more dresses. I promise.

New Hair

This post has nothing to do with dresses. Its all about my hair. Its been over a year since I had it cut. I love my long hair, but last week I decided enough was enough, so this past weekend, I went to I-tonica, saw my girl Dana, and chopped the locks. Lost a good 6 inches too. And even though I had been thinking about this and was ready for a change I cried a little the next day when I woke up. Long hair is defintely a security blanket for me, and I admit, although this is totally lame, I feel sexier with longer hair. However, my hair was in bad shape and was looking rather scary not sexy. Now its so shiny and healthy and takes me half the time to do. And I guess its not really that short...meh, whatever, its only hair and it grows back.

Bad Blogger

Wow, I totally suck at this..... I have been neglecting this blog all month and I totally blame the Fringe. For the past few weeks we have been rehearsing like mad, stressing out, annoying each other as we worked all the kinks outta the show. It even started to feel like this show wasn't going to work at all as we rehearsed the funny out of it. Its like hearing the same joke over and over until eventually you don't care. But then like magic, something incredible happens when you put the show on in front of an audience. They laugh. They remind you where the funny is and all the pain and frustration of rehearsal is gone. All that is left is to give good show.

Only 4 more shows left to go. So if you in the Whyte Ave area, and looking for a fun show, come down to the Black Dog(10425 Whyte Ave) and check out Waiting for Judd Nelson. Dont be a Neo-Maxi-Zoom-Dweebie and come see the show cuz its totally boss!

But back to the dresses I wear. When we were shopping at Value Village for costumes, I found this floral retro style dress for $11 and figured I would give it a try. Glad I did, cuz it is super cute, and its Liz Claiborne. I don't wear a lot of her clothes, but it is good quality and definitely originally sold for more than $11. Good deals, I love em.

Shopping

So I need a new dress for a wedding and I couldn't possibly wear something I already own. I did a little shopping at lunch rather than eating. Didn't have any luck finding a new party dress (yet), but had a fun 30 minutes trying things on before heading back to work. Now I am really hungry.

On the Fringe....

I haven't been blogging cuz I have been trapped in the basement of a Whyte Avenue bar rehearsing for our play. Every year for the past decade, our little group (Hit&Run productions) puts on a show in the basement of the Black Dog during the Edmonton Fringe Festival. This year the show is called "Waiting for Judd Nelson" and we open on Sunday, August 15. Still so much to do. Things are a bit frantic right now.....

Last week we filmed some of the opening credits for the show which parodys a couple of movies. My intro rips on Pretty Woman. Hence the fancy red dress. But here's a little secret of this red dress....its not fancy at all. I found it last week (the day before shooting, sweet) at my favorite costume shop, Value Village for $14.

So if you are in Edmonton from August 15-August 21, come on down to the Black Dog. Our show runs everynight at 7:00. Its only an hour long. Its funny and you can drink beer while you watch. The best part? You don't need tickets cuz its pay what you can.

Taste of Edmonton

Sometimes Edmonton is refered to as Deadmonton by snooty out-of-towners who think that there is nothing to do in our city. Ok, granted, 6 months of the year we are locked in by cold nasty weather and sometimes it would seem that the whole town hibernates. But the thing is, that once the sun comes out there is a tonne of shit to do cuz we gotta pack in all the fun in a short amount of time.

This weekend there were at least 5 festivals in and around the city. I managed to attend my most favorite summer festival, "The Taste of Edmonton". This one is all about food as 50 or so local restaurants set up tents at Churchill Square. You buy some tickets and then proceed around the park eating all the way. Even better, a couple years ago, some genius added "A Taste of Wine" to this event.

I went out and bought a long summer dress for $15. This is the perfect dress for a day of eating as there are no zippers or elastic waist. As Margaret Cho once noted, "Im gonna go put on my eatin' dress, and eat the shit out of your town"

I may not have eaten the entire town, but I did manage to feast on Kung Pow Chicken, chcken tika, beef tenderloin wrapped in bacon, potatoes aoli, a chicken drumstick stuffed with sausage, penne pasta, chocolate strawberries ...so good.

A plethora of dresses... well, three.

Three workday outfits from the last week of July. Looking at these, it would appear that I really need more colour in my wardrobe.

I dont have much to say about these emsembles, as they are all repeats from previous weeks. Although, its clear to me that I need to go shopping and buy something new to wear, Im bored with all my clothes.
