and now for something completely different

Im trying to catch up on some blogging today....its a little slow at work so I have a bit of time this morning. I work for Weight Watchers, and right now is not the most popular time for people to join a weight loss program. Shocking, we are most busy in January. (god bless the new years resolution). But we are also super busy in September as people start realizing how much weight they gained from bar-b-ques and beers over the summer. But right now..... it is SLOW.

I have spent most of the day retelling the same story about the naked man I saw running down Jasper Avenue the other day. I found a clip on Youtube and we have been watching and giggling all morning rather than working. I managed to time my walk home on Monday afternoon at the exact moment that this man decided to drop trou and run through the traffic downtown Edmonton. Good times, indeed.

Pink shoes and a pearl necklace....wut?

This summer is flying by at record speed. I swear when I was a kid, the two months off from school seemed like a lifetime. As an adult, it seems like summer maybe lasts a long weekend. But then again, as a kid I can remember waiting from 3:30-4:00 for my friend to finish piano lessons, and that 30 minutes was an eternity, but now, I can lose 30 minutes in the bathroom and not even notice.

This was me this weekend. Most of the weekend was spent in my shorties, but I did put on one dress to go for lunch.

This black&white number was another find at Value Village last summer. I needed a "party" dress for our (off)Fringe show Back in Black(Dog). This dress set me back a whole $4. Some days, like today, I wear pink shoes and pearls with this dress and feel super duper girly.

Parade Day!

This is our super awesome float from the Capital Ex Parade on Thursday (July 22). Its a giant rollerskate (if you couldn't tell) and it was totally bad ass. We skated around it, waved to the fans and gave rollin high-fives to the kids in the crowd. We were the media darlings too, getting love from both the Edmonton Sun and the Edmonton Journal. Here's some more parade photos...oh and I opted for the glitter booty shorts with white top and socks. (yeah, its the same thing I wore to the Pride Parade, but when else can you wear glitter booty shorts)
ghetto photo-op!

completely gratuitous.... who doesn't love men in uniform?

Too many choices?

Couldn't decide what to wear for the parade. My black E-Ville shirt, my green E-Ville shirt or my white E-Ville shirt. Green shorts or black. Mini skirt or glitter booty shorts? And what about the socks???

Workin it.

Got a little behind in the bloggin this week... there was a LOT going on. Parades, baseball games, etc....whats a girl to do.

But lets get up to speed. Here's a couple of dresses from earlier this week. Some standard work wear that I have worn previously. Im not that exciting when I dress for work, but I do what I can, and Im certainly doing more now that Im blogging about it.

This is me on Tuesday with my H&M shirt dress that I raved about back on the last week of June. However, this time I changed out the belt that came with it for this grey grosgrain ribbon. Voila! Totally different dress...okay not really, but I wore different shoes. Instead of the cherry Michael Kors, I opted for a grey and black peep toe I bought from the Shoe Warehouse. Sometimes I feel like a candy striper in this dress. And then I will wonder if candy sripers are really or just an invention of american televison and porn movies.

And this is me on Wednesday.... I wore my hair back two days in a row as Im really trying to avoid washing it for as long as possible. Not so long that I develop stinky dreads, but just long enough to try and make it healthier. Today was another perfect day for a black pencil skirt. (I have 3, but I did wear this one a couple of weeks ago with the pink top from Fridget) This time I chose another local designer for the top of my ensemble. This turquoise and black top is from Cinder+Smoke, and it was purchased at a sale held at the ARTery. (Best place in town to buy art, see live bands and get brunch, well the only place in town you can do all 3)

I dont see it

I hear it all the time... y'know you kinda look like Lindsay Lohan. Really? Thanks, I guess.... I mean this was okay a couple years ago when she had red hair, some curves and a career. She is 10 years younger and about 30 pounds lighter so I appreciated the compliment. But, now that she is a meth-face, tan-orexic jailbird, its not so flattering...

Me on Monday

I had so much weekend blogging yesterday that I completely forgot to post a pic of what I wore to work on Monday. So here's me from yesterday with a grumpy look on my face (waking up to rain is not a recipe for a cheery morning).

I am wearing a my Marc Jacob pleated skirt(refer day 23 ) with a blue button down shirt from Jacob (no relation)....and yes Im still wearing flats as this ankle seems determined to stay swollen and sore.

On the upside, Lindsay Lohan went to jail today. And she will be able to keep popping Adderall and Ambien....I wish I got to go to jail

Weekend events

The rest of the weekend went by in a blur. Not that it was particularily busy, but there was a lot of sunshine. After staying up waaaaay too late on Friday, Saturday was a slow start.

But here's the weekend events, (in no particular order) ... Did some housecleaning, went for a workout in the park with some derby ladies (known as Torture), ate a giant burger at Harveys (not as big as this one tho), went for a rollerskate, went to see the movie Inception (totally lived up to expectations), babysat my nieces and nephew for 4.5 hours, went for another skate, mowed the lawn, almost got in a fight with a hobo (true story), sat on my deck with a bottle of wine, watched a baaaaaad movie until 3 am, made pasta and shrimp with pesto sauce, played some Tetris with Bob. Overall, pretty quiet, but pretty good weekend.

This is what I wore. Denim skirt and blue top. The last time I wore this jean skirt (day 13) I wore the same top, only in yellow. And altho I did wear a giant flower in my hair this time, its clear I need to mix things up a bit.

I also wore this black sundress which I just purchased a couple of weeks ago from Winners. Its kinda like wearing a black tank top with a scarf as a skirt and it feels like Im not wearing anything. Easy breezy beautiful. Of course giant sunglasses are a must. Despite the haters, I will not be giving up oversized sunnies for anyone. Oh, and I did put on shoes at some point this weekend.

Gay Dancing

Friday night. Gay dancing night. For years, this was my routine.... but then all my gays moved away and I haven't been dancing in a long time. So when my friend Buffy asked me to go to Buddys (gayest name ever, but a great bar) on Friday night, I jumped at the chance.

Buffy's text to me was to wear something hilarious and/or awesome. (Buffy herself was wearing a retro 60's mod dress with her hot pink Coach sneakers) So, I figured it was about time to put on this sparkly shimmery dress I bought 3 weeks ago and haven't had the opportunity to wear yet. (It should be noted that the place I bought it from, 360• has since shut its doors, so sad.) I don't have a lot of occasion to wear a sequined mini, but dancing seemed appropriate....Its striped with black, silver and blue sequins and its ridiculously short. (booty shorts a must underneath, otherwise risking major Britney). When I hit the dance floor, I was a blur of sparkly light gyrating to GaGa....did I really dance in a cage??? It was a gay ol' time indeed.

Casual Fridays

I used to get excited about casual Fridays, cuz it meant that I could wear jeans and everything seemed ok in the world as the grumpy "suits"would cheer up in their denim and khaki. Now that I dont work on Fridays, I rarely wear pants at all.

This Friday morning I was woken up at 9:30am to a thundercrack so damn loud that it scared the bejesus outta me. It was raining so hard that I immediately rolled over and went back to sleep. When I woke up again around noon (love, love, love rainy morning sleep-ins) the rain was still coming down and it seemed even worse. I almost bailed out on meeting the girls for lunch, but Halen convinced me to get my lazy ass outta bed for Chinese food.

And then I did something that I haven't done in 7 weeks (since we started this whole dress thang)...... I put on jeans. It was weird. They felt tight and reminded me that I probably didn't need to be eating Chinese food. But they were my Rock&Republic jeans and they're sparkly, so it was okay.

Yesterday today

Let's play some catch up here....seems like the last couple of days, the only thing I have done on the computer is actual work, and listening to the Mel Gibson rage tapes. (holy crap the dude is insane, and clearly really likes blow jobs)

The weather has been shitty and rainy, so on Wednesday, I was forced to wear pants....lame, I know. But yesterday, Jon Bon Jovi was in town, and I have to wonder if it was just conicidence that yesterday was the only day we saw the sun. Could have just been the golden light that shines from his hair and bounces off his leather clad ass and not the sun at all. Sadly, I didn't go to see the concert, and I think I may have been the only 30 something woman in the city that wasn't at the show. Instead I went to see my friend Angie play her first gig with her band "No Knives"....they were cool and her ass is pretty sweet too.

But more importantly, what did I wear. Well in the daytime, I wore this short black skirt with a leopard print blouse from L.A.M.B. The skirt I bought from a huge discount store called Hangers, and I love that it has shorts built in. I originally purchased it for a Hallowe'en costume, but it works for real life too. The ankle is still sore, but I cheated and wore these hot pink kitten heels. By noon I changed to flats :(

In the evening I threw on my brown Esprit sundress (refer June 8 post for all the details) I changed up the accessories from last time I wore it to make it a little more interesting. The gold necklace came from my Granny, and the green flats came from Payless.

Today is another rainy day which is disappointing as I am supposed to go to The Street Performer Fest with the niece and nephew....but right now it doesn't seem very likely as its raining so hard its bouncing off the road. Just gonna wait it out....sigh.... Im so sick of the rain.

Gloomy

Today is so dreary and cold, that it almost feels like mid October and not mid-July. I just want to put on jammies and crawl back into bed. (A nap would be so choice right now)

Instead of reaching for colourful sundresses made of flimsy wispy material I am forced to wear this heavy courdoroy skirt and dark maroon top. Its a nice skirt, but its a winter skirt and should be at the back of my closet right now. Actually its an adorable navy pleated skirt from Marc Jacobs. I remember the first time I wore it, 3 Japanese girls complimented me on it. For some reason that made me feel even more stylish. (Is that racist?)
The only issue I have with this skirt is that its so high waisted, when I sit down I feel like Im a magicians assistant being cut in half in one of those magic boxes. That and the fact that its a WINTER skirt (have I mentioned that its effin cold here) and has no business being worn in July.
But check out the snazzy little ankle support/tensor bandage on my ankle now. In this photo, it actually looks kinda cool like its part of my shoe. Still, I have a cankle, and Im not happy about that. I really miss wearing high heels.

Feelin Fugly

Ugh.... I seemed to have gained 5 pounds this weekend (a little too much salt and liquor will do that) and so I am feeling kinda ugly this morning. To make it worse, I am forced to wear my glasses as I somehow forgot (again) to buy contact solution. And the rainy weather has made my hair frizzy.... Yeah, not feelin so pretty today.
But I am wearing a blue LnA tee with this white linen skirt that I wore a couple weeks ago with a different top. Added a waist cinching belt (lord know I need some cinching today) and my silver Marc Jacobs flats (aarrgh still no heels for a couple more weeks, stupid ankle injury).
Maybe tomorrow will be a prettier day.

Most Hardcore

Saturday afternoon was our year end E-Ville volunteer thank you bbq/picnic. We had lots of food and fun. Oh and there were awards too....and I totally won one! I was voted "Most Hardcore" which makes me seem like a complete bad ass. What wasn't so BA though, was the fact that I got all teary-eyed when accepting the award. Thankfully, they didn't take the award back.

Also, I received presents from my group of "torture" victims to thank me for kickin their butts every tuesday and saturday. They got me this faboosh"Ghettoblaster" t-shirt and signed a photo of the stairs we all run together ..... Awwwwww.
I immediately put the shirt on cuz it looked so cute with my black&white checkered shorts from L.A.M.B. (okay so no dress today, but these shorts are pretty sweet)
So big thanks to all the E-Ville ladies. I will try to live up to the title you have given me.

I want Sherbet

Sweet sassy m'lassie its a hot one out here today!! But I just got home, and I have parked myself on the deck with my lap top and a frosty beverage....aaahhhhhh perfect.

This is the second dress I bought last night and its another super summery sundress. I really couldn't have planned these purchases better as we are in the middle of a prairie heat wave. I kinda feel like Im eight years old in this dress though. With the sherbet colours and girly ruffles it makes me wanna eat ice cream.... I dont think I can ever be in a bad mood and wear this dress, its just too cheery.
I wore this dress to lunch today, and as I was waiting in the notoriously long line at "Chicken for Lunch" a woman tapped me on the shoulder. She looked at me and spoke very quietly "You are so beautiful. So beautiful. You look like Catherine Zeta-Jones". I thanked her for being so kind and then as she walked away she said "you take care of yourself pretty lady. She might have been a little bit slow cuz I certainly dont look anything like Zeta-Jones, but she was so sweetly sincere, that she totally made my day.

Divine Dress

I just bought this dress tonight. Its so damn hot outside (but Im not complaining) and this dress is perfect to survive the heat. I don't even have any swass, so its working at keeping me cool. I was down at Divine and checked out their vintage section tonight...and wouldn't you know it, they were having a sale. I was told by the perkiest sales associate ever, that if I bought 2 vintage pieces, the third one was free. She was so chipper and helped me sort through the racks of second hand dresses. She was actually a bit of fresh air as most retail staff are less than helpful and downright rude these days (or maybe I'm just getting old).
Divine is a bit of an Edmonton institution. Its just funny, cuz I can still remember the first time I went into Divine when I was 16. It was so unlike any of the stores at the mall and I was so intimidated by the goth/punk girls who worked there. I so badly wanted a pair of red Doc Martens (yeah I'm old) but I was too shy to ask for help. Those girls seemed so cool and I was the complete opposite of cool. The girl tonight was young enough that I probably could have been her babysitter, (hell had I been a sluttier teenager, she could have been my daughter)
But I bought this red sundress, made a quick stop at Megatunes for their closing out sale, (another independent store goes the way of the dinosaur) and headed home to watch the sunset.. and some Big Brother.

"Kar-ki" Skirt

Just wanna take a minute to talk about the khaki skirt, or as my mother says "Kar-ki". As in, "I went to the Gap store and bought a new pair of Kar-kis" (And she also pronounces Italian as "Eye-talion", but thats another story). This kind of skirt is a must have in the summer. Its simple. It goes with anything. I have worn it to go shopping, to see movies, to lunch, baseball games, and concerts. I have hung out in the park, gone for a bike ride, played frisbee, and had drinks on patios in this skirt. This week I have already worn it twice. So go out and get yourself an all purpose karki skirt.

Today I am wearing a black tank top from Jacob. I also have this tank in white and paid less for both on sale than I would for one at full price. Love that kinda shopping math. It has sequins on the straps to give a little sparkle. .
Since I dont have to work today, I decided to push back the washing of my hair one more day, hence the scarf and messy up-do. Im clean, just my hair is dirty.

A touch of pink

This is what I wore to work yesterday. I have already worn this black skirt for you and I will probably wear it again. Thats why you gotta have a great black pencil skirt in your wardrobe. I could probably wear this skirt everyday but make it look different depending on what goes on top. Today its a waaaay too cute top from local designers, Fridget Apparel. Its so pink and girly with frilly sleeves and tiny polk-a-dots. I feel pretty despite a momumental bad hair day.
I will be going to the market again this Saturday, and so who knows, I might just stop by the Fridget stall and buy another one. You should too.

I♥Kit Pellow

This entry has nothing to do with dresses at all, but rather it has everything to do with my unnatural and obsessive love for former MLB utility player and current third basemen for the Tijuana Cimarrones, Kit Pellow.

I did wear a skirt (same one I wore to baseball game last month) and my new Iron Maiden shirt( um it has a sparkly skull and its wicked) from the concert the other night, but lets get back to Kit.....
Im not really a sports girl, but last summer, we went to see Calgary play. I knew nothing about any of their players or even the game but it was at that game where I discoverd the man, the myth, the legend that is Kit Pellow.. When I checked Calgary's roster this year, there was no mention of Mr. Pellow and I couldn't find much else on-line since no one really cares about this level of baseball. But I knew in my heart, I would see Kit again....So please indulge me.....

Tuesday night we went to the baseball game to see the Tijuana Cimarrones, but more importantly we went for $2 tacos (actually on $3.50 if you bought 2 at a time, which I did) and $4 beers. And then I heard the announcement...up next, batting for Tijuana, number 34 Kit Pellow.... I almost dropped said beer and taco I was so excited. (Actually, I think my friend Bob was more excited as he has a HUGE man-crush on Kit and he let out a little yelp of glee)

We started cheering for Pellow, even though he was playing against our home team. We sang "For he's a jolly good Pellow" and adapted other hits like the Doors classic "Pellow, I love you, wont you tell me your name" Yeah, we got some strange looks from the crowd, but we didn't care.... And then magic happened....

It was the 9th inning and Tijuana was down by 4 runs. Bases loaded. 2 outs. Kit Pellow stepped up to bat. I started shouting that Kit Pellow will hit a home run now and boasted to the crowd that they have to believe in the power of Pellow like I did. Bob was pledging his love for Pellow at the top of his lungs and overall Im sure people thought we were insane....that is until there was a CRACK and god damn if that ball didn't fly right over the fence for a full on GrandSlam!!!! If it happened in a movie, I wouldn't believe it.

Ultimately, the home team won, but that didn't stop us from having a ball (lame pun completely intended) And when Kit Pellow walked back to the dug out, he looked up at us crazies screaming his name... he gave us a big smile and a wave. He's so boss.

We will be going again on Friday night, as Kit and the Cimarrones are here all week. I plan to wear something pretty for Kit. Bob wants to meet him and hang out on the bus with his new bestie. See you at the ball game.

Cute Dresses. Cheap.

A friend of mine sent me a link to this site, Mod Cloth, that sells nothing but cute dresses with a retro flair........ I will take them all please.

Start Your Engines

Still riding this derby high and its already Tuesday. Photos still coming in from what turned out to be the game of the season. Hopefully this high will continue and get me through this day.

Im still sporting a pretty swollen ankle, which got a little more swollen from Saturdays game. I look down at my feet and I dont even recognize my right foot since its triple the size of the left. Im hiding it in this photo as much as possible, literally, putting my best foot foward.

Today, the dress Im wearing was purchased from a local consignment store here in Edmonton, Vespucci. Its where the rich ladies of Edmonton take the clothes they don't want anymore and so if you take a little time, this place is loaded with treasures, like this BCBG dress. Its a faux wrap with a built in next tie/scarf and an all over black and white print. Sometimes I feel a bit like a racing flag when I wear this dress.

Name Change

The Daily Dress just became Frockin' It. Word.

In the Closet

Guilty pleasure alert. This delicious little website takes us into the closets of the famous and not-so famous. I love it cuz it satisfies my need for both useless celebrity information and fabulous clothes. I can only dream of having some of these closets. I especially love when they peak inside the closet of US Figure Skater (and super Fancy Pants) Johnny Weir.

Better than a dress.

Clearly these pictures are not of dresses. They are, however, photos of my brand new jersey for the E-Ville Dead Travel Team. Last night I was given this jersey and played in the best game of my short derby life. I will wear this jersey with pride and attempt to live up to the reputation and skill of this incredible team.

E-Ville hosted the Rat City girls from Seattle and holy moly it was a hell of a bout. The dome was packed and the crowd was electric. We had cheering sections and booing sections. We even had Paul Lorieau, who took a break from singing for the Edmonton Oilers to sing both anthems last night. He will now be known as Paul "the Punisher" as we presented him with his own official E-Ville shirt. The game was hard fought and I learned so much from playing with our girls and smashing against Rat City. Those bitches kicked serious ass and not only were they fierce and fun to play with, they were even more fun to party with after.

Oh...and the best part, E-Ville totally won!

Second dress...the day after.

Here is the second dress I wore at the Canada Day Party. I dont have any pics of me from the party actually wearing this dress, so only thoses who attended can vouce for the wardrobe change. This dress is so damn comfortable that I actually fell asleep wearing it. And when I say fell asleep, I mean passed out. So this is me, the next morning with my post-party face....and the dress, still looks fab.

She started it.

This is Adrienne. Also known as Tigra Banks. She likes to wear pretty dresses. She is responsible for the "Wear a Dress Everyday in June" event/extravaganza. If it weren't for her, I would be wearing pants right now. She is adorable and wants to start a revolution in the most lady like way possible.
(Im shaking my fist in anger that we didn't get a photo together in our pretty blue dresses last night.)
She is my inspiration. At last count she had 38 dresses and already we are plotting our wardrobe for June 2011. Viva la Revolution!

Party for the Nation

front lawn fun ............. ooooh fireworks

Still nursing a bit of a hangover this morning, but unlike the movie, I have full memory of the fun I had last night. We gathered together to celebrate the birth of our nation by having many drinks, eating hotdogs and watching fireworks. Basically, a bunch of hooligans (aka my dear friends) get drunk on my front lawn and watch as the fireworks are set off over the river valley. There are thousands of people in the park just a block from where we sit, and the best part is when the fireworks end and all those people have to truck back to their suburban homes and we continue to sit on the front lawn. Good times indeed.

The biggest problem I had leading up to the party was deciding which dress to wear. Somehow, I managed to purchase two. (but they were both so cute and on summer clearance). So I did what any good party/award ceremony host would do.... costume change.
I started with this frothy blue floral full length beach dress. Strapless and full of colour, this was a dress a little out of my comfort zone and I almost didn't wear it. But when you are hosting a summer patio party, I really cant imagine a better choice. I kinda just wanted to run through a field of flowers in this dress. I had gone to the BCBG 50% sale and tried on some similar dresses, but I just couldn't justify the price (and believe me I almost did) but I decided to walk around the mall for a bit and think about it. That's when I saw this dress in another store window. I fell in love with the colour and the print and it wasn't another black dress....best part, it was only $22. It should be noted however, that on my way to pay for this dress, I spied dress number two on the clearance rack.....and yes its black. Can only stay out of the comfort zone for so long.

Big thanks to all the party people for a fabulous night. And if I can give a tip to any party hostess, make this dip. We call it crack dip cuz just one taste and you will be tapping a vein to get this cheesy spicy goodness.
